TraceGains secures Food & Drink Federation Awards shortlisting with breakthrough AI-Powered ‘Certificate of Analysis’ solution

A new Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) solution for material compliance and lot-level ingredient quality control from TraceGains has been shortlisted in the Manufacturing & Digital Transformation category of the Food & Drink Federation Awards 2025.

TraceGains, the leading provider of compliance, quality, and innovation solutions for the food and beverage (F&B) industry, unveiled its IDP solution in March this year, introducing a powerful vertical AI Model to F&B brands built on rich contextual TraceGains data to automate the processing of Certificates of Analysis (CoAs).

“We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award in such a competitive field,” said Michelle Henry, Director of Sales for Europe at TraceGains. “As demand for supply chain visibility and digital transformation accelerates across the continent and the world as a whole, TraceGains is scaling its presence to meet customer needs in key markets. Being shortlisted for this award underlines how we are not only expanding our footprint but also our impact on customers’ businesses across Europe.”

Traditionally, CoA review has been a slow, manual, labor-intensive, and error-prone process, consuming thousands of combined hours each year and creating supply chain risks. “IDP solves this by automatically extracting, validating, and standardizing data from non-standardized documents, cross-checking them against product specifications, and flagging deviations for human review,” said Michelle. “Purpose-built to streamline COA processing to ensure a product's compliance in terms of quality, performance, and safety, TraceGains’ IDP eliminates the need for manual processes while improving accuracy and operational efficiency across workflows.”

Built on over a decade of proprietary knowledge, taxonomies, rule sets, and strong contextual data structures, IDP combines the natural language processing capabilities of modern AI with a powerful knowledge layer to interpret the structure and meaning behind COA formats. IDP’s industry-leading accuracy, reduces CoA processing time by over 50 hours per manufacturing site each month, and dramatically improves compliance, quality, and efficiency as a result.

“Beyond efficiency gains, IDP reduces risk, helps to prevent costly product recalls, and protects brand reputations,” added Michelle. “As the system evolves and sharpens over time, its accuracy and value only increase, creating a compounding competitive advantage. This innovation positions TraceGains as a global leader in digital transformation for the food and drink sector and helps manufacturers meet rising demands for compliance, sustainability, and consumer safety.”

TraceGains IDP represents a breakthrough in automating CoA verification, one of the most time-consuming and error-prone areas of food manufacturing. Previously, manufacturers manually reviewed countless CoAs every month to ensure ingredients met safety, quality, and regulatory standards - a process that took 12 minutes per page on average, introduced the potential for human error, and exposed companies to risk.

“With IDP, TraceGains introduces a vertical-specific AI solution built on OpenAI models and powered by more than a decade of contextual food and drink data,” explained Michelle. “IDP automatically extracts relevant data from incoming CoAs, compares it against stringent product specifications, and flags any deviations.”

“Unlike generic OCR (Optical Character Reader) tools, IDP can handle non-standardized and unfamiliar document formats, delivering superior accuracy and continuous learning.”

The results speak for themselves, with manufacturers saving over 50 hours per site per month, dramatically reducing manual labor and improving supply chain safety and compliance. IDP also reduces the risk of costly recalls and enhances sustainability by eliminating rework and waste linked to undetected non-conformance.

“We are thrilled that the impact of TraceGains IDP has been recognized by this FDF Award nomination,” added Michelle. “This is truly a testament to the hard work and dedication of the development team and reflects the company’s ongoing investment in R&D. We are adding new capabilities such as sustainability tracking and allergen risk management, regular software updates, customer feedback loops, and integration with the broader TraceGains ecosystem to ensure IDP always remains ahead of evolving industry needs."

The winners of the FDF 2025 Awards will be announced on Thursday, 11 September 2025 at the Roundhouse, London.
